In early 2010 I decided I wasn’t happy with who I had let myself become. I was massively overweight, and although I was coming to the gym several times a week I was very unfit. I use to “reward” myself after attending a gym session with a muffin and a large cappuccino – really defeated the purpose! I was a heart attack waiting to happen.
It wasn’t until June 2010 that I decided enough was enough and the only way things were going to change was if I changed them. I sought help from my Doctor, going on a very low calorie controlled diet for several weeks to kick-start my weight loss and I sought support from my gym; then Contours now EnVie. I thought I was going to die ... but I didn’t! I seriously wasn’t able to run a step when I started. I even struggled with walking any distance. But I persisted and worked my body outside of its comfort zone (though there may have been some whinging involved .
Over the last 2 ½ years I have used a variety of techniques to keep my diet on track, focusing on healthy eating and portion control. But throughout it all I have had the unwavering support of the trainers at EnVie and I trained hard. I can now run long distances, have completed numerous fun runs and have commenced training for my first half marathon in April 2013. I can lift heavy weights and I can punch hard (just ask my boxing partners).
I have lost over 55kgs and gone from a size 26 to a 14/16. While my weight loss journey continues, I know that I am a fit and healthy 40 years old woman, setting an excellent example for my 8 year old son. My husband has also benefited with improving his fitness and also losing a significant amount of weight as a result of the changes that I made.
I know that I may have been able to lose weight but without the support from the trainers at EnVie I would not be the fit, healthy and strong woman I am today. Nor would I have made the wonderful friends that I have through the gym – my coffee gals, support network and personal cheer squad.
